The Staffordshire Community Perinatal Mental Health Team (PMHT) provides specialist assessment and support for women across South Staffordshire, providing clinical interventions to women experiencing mental health difficulties, and those at risk of developing mental health difficulties up to two years after baby's birth.

The service supports women experiencing moderate to severe mental health conditions.

The Team Leader will work alongside a large multidisciplinary team, providing operational leadership of the service with some clinical input also


This will include:

  • Day to day management, supervision, and coordination of designated staff.
  • Be responsible for monitoring sickness, annual leave, flexitime arrangements, appraisal, personal development planning and informal disciplinary matter.
  • To be responsible for designated staff members target setting and performance management.
  • Maintaining own clinical competencies by working clinically 10% of the week.
  • To deputise for the Service Manager as required.

You will need to have the following key skills and experience:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with experience of working in a mental health setting.
  • Have a genuine passion for working with women and families within the perinatal period.
  • Be able to work well in a team, across services and systems.

The post holder carries day to day responsibility for the operational management and delivery of services within the Perinatal Service based in South Staffordshire in line with the Trust Values.

The post holder will ensure that a high quality service is delivered within this specialist area and that all National and Trust targets and standards are adhered to including the recording of information within the IT systems.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of staff within the team, leadership, the delivery and delegation of management supervision and ensuring appropriate clinical / professional supervision takes place as per Trust Policy.

The post holder will also carry out clinical shifts to maintain clinical competencies for 10% of their time.

In conjunction with the service manager and multi professional partners they will develop the provision and quality of perinatal services for patients.

This will demonstrably reflect the principles of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness as well as Trust and National Policy.
