    Description

Housing Officer – Supported Housing & Welfare Benefits (Part-Time)

Location: Great Yarmouth (covering Yarmouth scheme & occasional travel to Suffolk scheme)

    Hours: 25 hours per week

Salary: £14 per hour (£18,200 per year)

We're looking for a positive and proactive and well-organised Housing Officer to join our supported housing service. This part-time role involves supporting vulnerable tenants with both their housing and welfare needs, while also ensuring that all paperwork, records, and administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time.

You'll be a key part of helping people build stability and independence — from managing tenancies and benefit claims to ensuring legal and financial compliance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide hands-on support to tenants, including those with learning disabilities, veterans, and people affected by homelessness.
    • Manage tenancy agreements, move-ins, and exits, including documentation, records, and tenant files.
    • Support tenants with welfare benefit claims (e.g. Housing Benefit under specified accommodation, Universal Credit, ESA, PIP).
    • Complete and maintain accurate records, forms, benefit paperwork, housing files, and communication logs — ensuring all documentation is fully up to date and audit-ready.
    • Liaise with local authorities, DWP, and partner agencies to resolve housing or benefit issues.
    • Help with rent collection, and arrears management, ensuring alignment with tenants' benefit entitlements.
    • Contribute to safeguarding and risk assessments by reporting concerns and collaborating with the support team.
    • Ensure compliance with tenancy law, benefit regulations, and organisational policies.

    About You:

    • You have experience working with vulnerable client groups in housing, social care, or welfare rights settings.
    • You are confident with both face-to-face support and the administrative side of the role — you know that good record-keeping is essential for accountability and tenant outcomes.
    • You understand the UK welfare system, especially specified accommodation rules and Housing Benefit processes.
    • You're organised, self-motivated, and detail-focused.
    • You are confident using IT systems, form-filling, and managing caseloads.
    • You hold or are willing to undergo DBS clearance.

    Desirable:

    • Experience in Supported Housing, Housing Officer, Benefits Advisor, or Support Worker roles.
    • Experience working with veterans, those with disabilities, or people facing homelessness.
    • Understanding of housing law, tenancy types, and safeguarding.

    How to Apply:

If you combine strong people skills with solid administration and housing knowledge, we'd love to hear from you.

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: £18,200.00 per year

    Expected hours: 25 per week

    Benefits:

    • On-site parking

    Work Location: In person
