Reporting to the Risk and Information Governance Manager, the post holder will support the development and implementation of the Risk and Information Governance Strategy and Framework to ensure compliance across the Council.


The post holder will be engaging with teams from across the Council, fostering strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, supporting them with the critical consideration of Risk and Information Governance in all aspects of their work.


Main duties and responsibilities

Role Specific:

Support the development, implementation and updates of complex Information Governance and Information Security policies and guidance.

Assist in providing operational support, training, expert advice, guidance to officers at all levels on information governance related issues.


Adopt and implement approaches to measure the Council's Information Governance performance against National Security Standards to ensure good data security and that personal information is handled correctly.


Act as a change agent by working with Data Process Owners and other key stakeholders to ensure they are informed and supported in the execution of their data responsibilities.

Assist in undertaking information governance and security audits and information risk assessments with Information Asset Managers and key stakeholders.

Assist in providing expert advice and direction to improve information governance to the IG Board, SIRO and management teams

Assist the implementation of and compliance with GDPR


Assist the conducting and reviewing of DPIAs and escalating high risks to the Risk and Information Governance Manager as required.


Assist in maintaining the Councils Information Asset Register, ensuring it is kept up-to date by the departmental Information Asset Managers and key stakeholders.

Reviewing contracts and information sharing agreements.

Participate in the Information Governance Board and support IG Operational Groups as required.

Use governance mechanisms to identify and track opportunities to save money for the council without reducing service levels.


Maintaining official registers and records, ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation and best practice standards.


Play an active role in our delivery community of practice; work across the Council and outside to develop your team and engage others.
