Description

The clinical fellow will be responsible to a nominated consultant and the Clinical Director of the department and will be expected to work with consultants to maintain standards, education and develop skills.

JOB PLAN Resident 1:8 full shift. EWTD 09 compliant.

new junior doctor contract compliant REQUIREMENTS Two years anaesthetic training and service in recognised hospitals at SHO level or higher.

Some On call experience for intensive care and obstetrics is essential. Applicants in possession of the FRCA, FFARCSI or equivalent will be at an advantage but this is not mandatory.

TEACHING, STUDY AND TRAINING The anaesthetist will be allocated to individual educational supervisors, who will ensure that training and competencies are developed according to the RCOA guidelines.

It is expected that the Anaesthetist will take part in the regular departmental Audit and Journal meetings and participate in Continuing Medical Education as required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.


There is a weekly academic anaesthetic meeting at the Trust, which the trust grade anaesthetist is expected to attend and contribute to.

The Homerton Anaesthetic Department has a selection of up to date reference texts plus network computers allowing access to the internet, intranet and preparation of PowerPoint presentations.

There is a Postgraduate Medical Education Centre, which runs regular lunchtime meetings for trainees, and there is a well-equipped library and audiovisual department.

AUDIT There are cyclical audit projects available for trainees who are actively encouraged to participate in.

There are opportunities to present this work at trust wide clinical governance and audit days.
