Job Purpose


The Head of Supply Chain role exists to provide strategic leadership and management of the Supply Chain function and to ensure optimal supplier performance and price across the UK and Ireland.


The role holder will be required to transform and evolve the existing function by the creation and development of a Procurement strategy, and the implementation of a supporting plan, which ensures that the function is operating in accordance with the objectives of the business.


The supporting plan continuously adds value, mitigates supply chain risks, delivers cost savings, and builds longer term strategic supplier business relationships which are mutually beneficial.

Organisation is key to success in this role.

From people management to developing new processes and delivering robust internal reporting - the Supply Chain Leader will play a critical leadership role, getting the best out of the team and ensuring the smooth running of organisations supply chain function.

The location is primarily homebased with frequent travel required to site and relevant offices.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Embed and 'live' the company's vision, mission, values and behaviours.
  • Create and implement best procurement practice throughout including vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance. Specifically, to ensure that procurement strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets, which enables the company to function efficiently.
  • Set the strategy of the department and ensure all team members and stakeholders are aligned and follow through.
  • Develop additional service strategy for spare parts and tooling
  • Develop robust standard terms and conditions to use with the supply base to determine appropriate flow downs from customer.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and communications with key suppliers for negotiating terms, quality, pricing and lead time schedules in line with the company expectations.
  • Support team with import and export expectations and managing relationships with custom agents / forwarders
  • Work cross functionally and collaboratively with other leaders in the business on tasks and initiatives which can boost performance and standard.
  • Deliver functional performance to quality levels, cost targets agreed, scope and schedule adherence to business needs.
  • Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance.
  • Provide clear leadership and guidance to the team, coordinate and coach, ensuring that they are trained adequately, enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and drive continuous improvement culture across the company.
  • Build a 'right first time' ethos within the team, by developing processes and training that deliver consistency of work.
  • Set and monitor KPIs to measure department performance and drive process improvement
  • Establish effective processes and practices for knowledge sharing and communication.
  • Monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to agreed delivery metrics, and in cases of failures ensure reasons for nonperformance are clearly understood and communicated.
  • Ensure that all procurement data (including but not limited to price, lead times and validity) is up to date, maintained and reviewed on the ERP system to assist budget forecasts and with the bidding processes of the business.
  • Maintain financial controls, in particular material costs, fuel, equipment, maintenance and wastage.
  • Embed IT and computer systems in day to day to working, to build an efficient process flow of information from order to invoice
  • Proactively contribute to the wider strategic goals of the overall business.
  • Plan and execute the procurement of materials from suppliers.
Personal

  • Experience in a similar leadership role mandatory.
  • Qualified in CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply) or working towards.
  • Time served experience in a similar planning and procurement / purchasing supply chain role.
  • ERP system experience ideally
  • Experience with post BREXIT customs rules would be beneficial
  • The ability to balance short term priorities, but able to work towards the longterm supply chain objectives.
  • Comfortable and adaptable in a growing and change environment.
  • A selfstarter with ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, organisation, and communication skills.
  • You will also need to provide the correct Right to Work documentation and relevant qualifications.
