Biomedical Laboratory Assistant
Job Summary
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS.
Operating a network of centres across England and North Wales, we collect around 2 million units of blood and tissues a year, converting them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments of patients.
The Clinical Biotechnology Centre, at NHSBT Filton, provides manufacturing services for advanced therapies such as gene therapies both within the NHS, private sector and internationally.
You will be working as part of a highly motivated and dynamic team supporting the manufacturing of advanced therapy medicinal products such as plasmid DNA and viral vectors.
You will be performing a range of routine activities to support the MHRA regulated department which will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients' lives.
The role will include management of stock, receipting of goods, temperature mapping, general laboratory housekeeping and laboratory administrative/clerical activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and cutting-edge sector within the UK.We're looking for level 3 qualifications or equivalent experience in NHSBT or laboratory.
You'll also, ideally, have a working knowledge of basic IT packages and some experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory environment.
A good team player, you'll be capable of motivating both yourself and others as you tackle a wide variety of tasks.
Main duties of the job
- You will be required to perform a range of routine and non routine tasks in support of the manufacturing of advanced therapy products such as gene therapies, with the support of your supervisor and other team members
- You will be required to undertake a range of routine duties such as stock management and reconciliation, receipting of goods, laboratory housekeeping, temperature mapping and laboratory related administrative/clerical jobs on a regular basis
- You will be required to handle a range of equipment
- You may be required to manually handle equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of working with Information Technology such as Microsoft Office
Qualifications and Training
- Minimum of GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent qualification eg NVQ Level 2, BTEC level 2 would be desirable or willingness to study for a Level 2 qualification, where funding available
- Willingness to undertake further training and development
