Job description

About us
We are a progressive and ambitious council. Our vision of "creating a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation" is central to everything we do.

Our Corporate Plan makes a commitment to invest in prevention, promote health and wellbeing, and focus on reducing inequalities across all areas.

Thriving communities, where people are empowered to achieve their ambitions and fulfil their potential, underpin this plan. This is an exciting time to join the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Your expertise, passion and ability to deliver change will make you central to addressing these challenges. We are proud of what we have achieved, but we also know there is more to be done.

We need to support our residents through cost-of-living rises, and to strengthen our approach to preventing inequalities by building on strong partnerships with our communities.

About the role

  • You will lead and manage team members responsible for delivery of a range of public health services and local priorities to improve health and social outcomes and reduce inequalities. These include services for children, young people and families (including 019 commissioned services)
  • Your leadership will be critical for the development and implementation of strategies; as a senior member of the council, you will champion a health in all policies approach
  • You will be involved in work to improve our understanding of local health and wellbeing needs, design and implement interventions and evaluate success
  • You will hold direct managerial responsibly for services and budgets and be expected to influence budgets held by other organisations
  • You will work across organisations as an advocate for change by building strong effective relationships with a wide range of partners including colleagues across the Council, Frimley Integrated Care System (including primary care networks, the Place Team and local health trusts), East Berkshire Public Health Network, children's services, voluntary sector and elected members.

Who we're looking for

  • Your work will be underpinned by a high level of intellectual rigour, a commitment to addressing inequalities and an ability to translate the evidencebase to bring about improvement at the local level
  • You will work flexibly to address competing priorities and deliver work to tight deadlines
  • You will tackle complex public health problems through strong leadership and diplomacy
  • You will have the tenacity to identify and quickly build on opportunities for improving outcomes
  • You will have strong communication skills and be able to negotiate with a wide range of partners to influence others in complex environments
  • You will inspire and motivate others.
Part time working/job share requests will be considered and we also support flexible working where possible.
