JOB OVERVIEW


Are you passionate about social sciences and eager to make a positive impact on student's educational journeys? Durham University International Study Centre is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Social Science Tutor to join our team.

As a Social Science Tutor, you will play a vital role in providing academic support, guidance, and mentorship to students pursuing studies in various social science disciplines.

This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and empower students while fostering their critical thinking and analytical skills.


ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Foundation: Humanities, Law, and Social Sciences
  • Pre-Masters: Law and Social Science

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering modules (facetoface) to international students studying programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the development of modules.
  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking, and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre's virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
  • Maintaining an accurate and uptodate record of student attendance and performance.
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.

ABOUT YOU

  • A recognised teaching qualification (Essential)
  • Teaching experience delivering Humanities and/or Social Science programmes within a Sixth Form, Further Education or Higher Education context
  • Experience working with international students (Desirable).
