Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, our growing team are passionate about generating clean energy and supporting the UK and Europes net zero ambitions.

Our current portfolio includes five part or fully owned wind farm projects, each at different lifecycle stages.

Our operational wind farms Afton (100% equity), Beatrice (25%) and Överturingen (50%) have an installed capacity of 320 MW (RRPL proportion), while our development projects Benbrack onshore wind farm in the South West of Scotland (100%) and Inch Cape offshore wind farm off the East Coast (50%) will deliver an additional 570 MW.


Job Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, lead and manage the legal team.

Ensure that the Company strictly adheres to law, adequately identify and avoid or mitigate legal risk and provide a high standard of legal advice and support to the business on all relevant legal matters.

Participate as an active member of Senior Management Team of the Company.

People management

  • Lead and line manage a team of lawyers to support the Company's activities with responsibility for recruiting, developing and mentoring members of the legal team.
  • Coordinate the annual and monthly work of the Legal function.
  • Provide feedback on performance to direct reports and support their development.
  • Assist with the creation of succession plans for the Legal function.
Professional advice

  • The provision of legal and regulatory advice on complex Company, project and transactional matters.
Contract Management

  • Responsibility for general corporate/commercial, and commercial contract advice.
  • Drafting bespoke agreements and the drafting and negotiation of commercial contacts, consultancy agreements, nondisclosure agreements and other agreements, as required. Drafting and the adoption and implementation of a range of standard company legal documentation.
Commercial

  • Advise, assist or lead on a range of corporate transactions including Involvement in the legal aspects of UK and European M&A transactions.
  • Provide all necessary legal input on transaction and contractual negotiations, responsible for protecting the Company's interests and ensuring that a proper due diligence exercise is undertaken.
  • Assist and support the Chief Legal Officer to coordinate the organisations response to litigation or any potential legal challenges.
Company Secretarial

  • Support the Chief Legal Officer in establishing and undertaking effective and best practice governance for the Board, Subsidiary and Senior Executive Committee meetings and such shadow committees or similar bodies as appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of effective governance.
Risk Management

  • Identify key legal risks, research issues and formulate strategies to mitigate exposure.
  • Promote legal awareness and update the business on relevant legislative changes and case law affecting the organisation and wider renewables sector.
Stakeholder Management

  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties on complex legal matters, creating relationships of trust.
  • Primary contact with and management of external legal advisers ensuring optimum service and value for money.
Board Representation

Act as Company Secretary or Director of subsidiary companies where required

Compliance

  • Assist the Chief Legal Officer to maintain a strong compliance framework to ensure that the Company complies with relevant regulatory requirements, laws and any internal policies and procedures ordinarily under the control of the legal department.

Knowledge and Experience Required
Essential

  • 10+ years postqualification legal practice experience (law firm and ideally, inhouse) with experience gained in either projects, infrastructure or construction matters.
  • Experience leading and developing a team.
  • Deep understanding of the commercial/environmental/regulatory challenges for the renewable energy industry.
  • An understanding of relevant Scottish, English and European legislation.
Desirable

  • Renewable energy sector experience.

Qualifications
Essential

  • A qualified solicitor in Scotland or England and Wales, with relevant degree and post graduate qualification.
  • An LLB from a UK university or equivalent law degree from another commonlaw jurisdiction.
