    Electromagnetic Engineer Job Description

    We are seeking a talented Junior/Mid-level Electromagnetic Engineer and a more senior candidate to join our Research & Development team.

    The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and delivering active parts for permanent-magnet synchronous motors and knowledge of electromagnetic 2D/3D FEA simulation software packages such as JMAG, Opera, Flux, ANSYS Maxwell, MotorCAD, or FEMM.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design radial and axial flux automotive traction machines, including permanent magnet synchronous motors, induction motors, wound-field synchronous motors, and switched reluctance motors.
    • Process code based on FEA software output for all types of traction motors.
    • Design winding systems, including random-wound stranded winding, concentrated winding, axially inserted hairpin winding, and continuous wave hairpin winding.
    • Simulate motor magnetic behaviour using FEA software.
    • Interpret customer system-level requirements and propose the best motor topology solution.
    • Conduct thermal analysis of motors based on loss calculations.
    • Conduct NVH analysis of motors based on force calculations.
    • Calibrate simulation performance outputs with dyno and/or in-vehicle measurements.
    • Specify materials and be the technical point of contact for suppliers during procurement of motor active parts for prototypes.
    • Deliver high-quality technical reports on motor design topics and present solutions to customers.

    Requirements:

    • Experience in designing and delivering active parts for permanent-magnet synchronous motors.
    • Knowledge of AC motor control system theory.
    • Experience in motor cooling design.
    • Understanding of test procedures required to calibrate electromagnetic FEA loss maps.
    • Excellent Matlab and Python programming skills.
    • Understanding of manufacturing methods of motor active parts.

    Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
