We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable General Maintenance Operative to join our team.

As a General Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out pre-designated maintenance works, as well as planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks across various sites.

Your attention to detail and ability to work independently will contribute to the smooth operation of our facilities management services.

Monday - Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks as coordinated by the administration staff and agreed with the Regional Facilities Manager.
  • These tasks may include but not limited too:
  • Planned periodic testing of fire alarm systems in accordance with legislation.
  • Planned periodic testing of emergency lights in accordance with legislation.
  • Planned recorded testing of water outlet temperatures in accordance with L8 regulations.
  • Planned recorded flushing of water outlets in accordance with L8 regulations.
  • Planned periodic recording of utility meter readings as per client specifications.
  • Inspection and reporting of the condition of fire doors in accordance with legislation.
  • Regular inspection of fixed firefighting equipment to ensure serviceability and compliance.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of fans, filters, and ventilation grilles as applicable.
  • Planned periodic inspections of windows to check for safe operation.
  • Regular inspection of plant rooms for cleanliness and proper operation.
  • Regular perimeter walkarounds to ensure fencing integrity and proper functioning of external lighting.
  • Repairs of minor items as applicable.
  • Assistance in fixing minor items such as shelves and notice boards.
  • Minor painting works as required.
  • Assembly of furniture and lowlevel removals.
  • Regular litter picking and removal of fallen leaves.
  • Boarding of broken windows.
  • Adjustment of time clocks biannually to coincide with daylight time saving.
  • Assistance with planned and reactive works on drainage installations and building fabric.
  • Assistance with planned and reactive works on grounds maintenance.
  • Identify and report any defects found to service coordinators, providing a parts list and estimated timescale for remedial works.
  • Complete works orders and time sheets in a timely manner as agreed with service coordinators.
  • Maintain a professional image and uphold the values of the company
  • Foster and maintain good working relationships with all employees and clients' representatives.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for oneself and others.
  • Collaborate closely with contract support staff to provide uptodate records of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities for audit and statutory compliance purposes.
  • Interact closely with onsite subcontractors to ensure adherence to safe working practices and compliance with subcontractor policy, including safe access, safe working conditions, and strict adherence to the permit system.
  • Assist with the timely and satisfactory completion of quoted and extra works as required.

About You:


  • Confident in working alone and in a team
  • Clean UK Driving licence
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work within agreed objectives, demonstrating effective resource management.
  • Strong problemsolving skills and the capacity to address and resolve issues independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members, managers and other trades within the maintenance section.
  • Familiarity with using IT tools such as PDAs and CAFM systems for task management.
  • Competency in estimating material quantities required for completing tasks.
