Part-time, Retail Shop Assistant - Job Description

Background

One Dalkeith is a community development trust owned and run by the local community that offers affordable business spaces, community facilities, and activities.

Facilities include a theatre with cinema facilities, a cookery class kitchen, a DIY workshop, a pop-up cafe and business spaces.

The organisation is now seeking to develop its prime retail unit into a bespoke retail shop featuring up to 40 independent local enterprises on a rent-a-shelf basis.

The retail shop looks to encourage people to _shop locally_.

One Dalkeith aspires to make this a _shopping destination_ where guest retailers can demonstrate their goods and customers can "meet the maker.

" a monthly calendar of late-night-themed shopping events will be scheduled, such as try
- and-buy events, product launches and tastings. The shop will sell locally produced products such as Gifts, Home Accessories, Clothing, House Plants, Bath & Body, Art, and food items.

It will also sell goods that support community groups and have community projects such as a school uniform swap shop, a winter coat initiative, and a neighbourhood garden produce initiative.

The post holder will supervise staff and volunteers and report to the Shop Manager.

• Receiving, unpacking and arranging new shipments from suppliers and vendors
• Arranging and labelling goods on the display shelves
• Assisting customers in finding the products they're looking for
• Processing customer payments at the checkout point/till
• Addressing customer complaints and inquiries
• Providing shopping advice and recommendations to customers
• Cleaning and rearranging the store afterhours
• Collaborate with other team members to keep the sales floor area clean and organised at all times
• Follow all opening, closing, health, safety, and security procedures.
• Supporting volunteers in their role.

• GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

Experience:

• Retail sales: 3 years (preferred)
