Role Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a part time Lead Medical Appraiser.

You will work with the Responsible Officer to ensure that the appraisals provided by the Bupa Designated Body (DB) are of consistently high quality and ensure that arrangements for medical appraisal are established and functioning efficiently and effectively.

You will lead appraisers, advise appraisees and the Medical Revalidation Manager (MRM) ensure that the RO is presented with appropriate evidence for doctors' revalidation and assist in quality assurance of the appraisal process to external regulatory standards


The Lead Medical Appraiser will work with the BGUK Director of Clinical Governance to support Medical Governance within the Clinical Governance Framework.


What you'll do:


Appraisal Process:


  • Promote excellence in medical appraisal and revalidation across Bupa UK to deliver robust revalidation recommendations and quality improvements in patient care through the professional development of doctors.
  • Ensure appraisals delivered through the Bupa DB are consistently high quality and that a quality assurance process is in place, e.g. through audit and peer review
  • Support the RO by ensuring that the outputs of appraisal provide the required information to enable robust revalidation recommendations to be made
  • Review and advise on Bupa revalidation policies and supporting documents
  • Participate in Bupa revalidation team meetings and support and facilitate local medical appraiser peer network meetings
  • Support the MRM with planning doctors' (as a group) appraisal training needs identification and relevant actions
  • Advise and support the MRM on the allocation of appraisers to appraisees

Appraisers:


  • Recruiting and selecting medical appraisers
  • Together with the MRM support new appraisers through a probationary period, providing feedback on their performance
  • Provide leadership, support and advice for the medical appraiser workforce on all aspects of the appraisal process;
  • Oversee the performance of medical appraisers and assist with the management of any underperformance issues
  • Be alert for signs of concern about the performance and capability of medical appraisers
  • Be available for discussion with appraisers of any difficult or unclear situations or where conflict must be resolved

Appraisees:


  • Within the clinical governance framework assist with the management of relevant appraisee underperformance issues

External/Representation:


  • Contribute to the Bupa monitoring of, and response to, the external revalidation/ appraisal environment.
  • Represent Bupa externally in the revalidation/appraisal community, attend external meetings and network with appraisal leads in other organisations

Medical Governance:


  • Contribute to clinical governance work and assurance at Market Unit level with a medical governance focus

What you'll bring:


We are also looking for the following:

  • Registered and licensed Bupa UK employed doctor
  • Works within BUPA in a customer facing/clinical management capacity in existing role (desirable)
  • Revalidation/appraisal experience
  • Extensive Clinical governance experience
  • On specialist or GP register
  • IT literate
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to both support and challenge
