Why work with us

  • The Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) QUIT program, based on the Ottawa model, is the systematic implementation at scale, of the treatment of tobacco dependency in secondary care, and the provision of ongoing support for people from community smoking cessation services. It recognises that tobacco dependency is a chronic, relapsing clinical condition that prematurely kills at least half of people who smoke. Smoking is seen as a medical condition that can be treated, rather than as a lifestyle choice.
As a Tobacco Treatment Advisor you will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed.

Whilst working as an integrated part of the wider respiratory team, you will provide tobacco treatment advice and support to individuals and groups of people, who want to stop smoking, reduce their harm from tobacco or for temporary abstinence when in hospital or permanent cessation.

This will be for both patients and staff.

All at TSDFT are committed to implementing the QUIT program in all Acute and Maternity settings from early 2021.

This is the first step in developing a wider Healthy Hospitals Program implementing the other prevention measures from the NHS Long term Plan that are relevant to Trusts.

The QUIT program will increase the support we offer to people who are admitted to, or attend our Hospitals, to help them to stop smoking.

The program will also provide more support to staff who wish to quit and help us to have smoke free hospitals and grounds.

You will:

  • Deliver tobacco harm reduction (smoking cessation) assessments, advice and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications and ecigarettes to patients
  • Provide advice and support to ward staff, including reinforcing the training provided to inpatient teams by T Treating Tobacco Dependency (TTD) steering group to reduce harm from tobacco and the promotion of smoke free settings
  • Ensure robust continuity of care planning for the patient's ongoing tobacco dependency treatment for patients wishing to quit or who have an ongoing harm reduction program.
  • Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support
  • Work with people to change their behavior to improve their health to include patients and staff
  • Act as a smokefree champion promoting the smoke free message through their day to day work
  • Help to facilitate smoke free environments
Our people are caring, committed, inclusive and focussed on quality. We focus on solutions and people's strengths.

Listed are a few of the benefits that are available to you as an employee:

  • NHS Pension Scheme
  • Childcare at our day nursery
  • Generous Holiday Entitlement, starting at 27 days a year (for full time workers) plus bank/public holidays
  • Staff Discounts
  • Career development and training opportunities

  • Employee Support

  • Staff have access to a 24hour helpline

If you share our values and vision and are passionate about working with people on what matters to them, you could be a real asset to our Torbay and South Devon Team.
