About us:


We are looking to recruit a Prison Library Assistant to work within the library teams at HMP Risley and HMP Thorn Cross.

You will be supported in the role by a Prison Librarian and work alongside other members of their team and Prison Orderlies.


The role:


Working within a prison library is challenging yet very rewarding, as access to books and information can make a meaningful difference to offenders by helping them to change their lives for the better.


Your hours will be split between the two sites, working a Wednesday and alternate Saturdays at Thorn Cross and every Thursday at Risley.

There will also be the opportunity to work extra hours as required.


What's needed?:


We are looking for someone who is passionate about the value of reading and will encourage and support informal learning.


Excellent communication and customer service skills are required, as well as basic administration skills and practical experience of using ICT.


Previous experience of working in a library or prison environment is desirable but not essential as training will be given.


An ability to work with a wide range of customers, work to prison standards, observe strict confidentiality and demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity is essential.
