An exciting opportunity for a professionally qualified mental health practitioner (e.g RMN, Social Work, Occupational therapist, systemic therapist) has become available to work in a dual role within the Youth Offending and Emotional and Mental health service in Southend, based co-located with the Youth Offending team

About NELFT's ESET CAMHS

NELFT's SET CAMHS s for anybody aged between 0-18, living in the Southend, Essex and Thurrock areas and is free at the point of entry.

The service is also for young people with special educational needs (SEN) up to the age of 25. The CAMHS Tier II and Tier III services no longer exist, replaced with an integrated EWMHS.

NELFT's EWMHS is for anybody aged between 0-18, living in the Southend, Essex and Thurrock areas and is free at the point of entry.

The service is also for young people with special educational needs (SEN) up to the age of 25. The CAMHS Tier II and Tier III services no longer exist, replaced with an integrated EWMHS.

Structure of NELFT's EWMHS


There are:

three Children's Single Point of Access (CSPA), seven Locality Teams three Crisis Teams and a specialist Eating Disorders Team.

These are located across Southend, Essex and Thurrock.

What difficulties can be referred to the service?

  • Mood and anxiety disorders
  • Behavioural and conduct disorders
  • Emerging personality and attachment disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Psychotic disorders
  • Deliberate selfharm and suicidal ideation
  • Substance misuse with coexisting mental health needs (dual diagnosis)
  • Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) with cooccurring mental health needs
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with cooccurring mental health needs
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Prolonged bereavement problems


All referrals to the service are assessed using a care pathways approach, developed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance criteria (NICE) and based on a best practice model of treatment.

The service is driven by the principles underpinning the national CYP-IAPT programme (Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies); evidence based interventions, routine measurement of outcomes, access to high quality training and supervision for professionals and true co-production with children and young people.

Each locality EWMHS team has four care pathways.

Each care pathway is clinically led and structured as follows in each EWMHS locality team:


  • Mood and anxiety
  • Neurodevelopmental
  • Complex
  • Behavioural and conduct


Care pathway leads and practitioners ensure that a high quality, timely, accessible and evidence-based service is available to all children and young people who need it.

This means establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with wider social, youth offending, health and voluntary services.

Youth Offending in EWMHS

The aim of EWMHS is to respond earlier to children and young people's needs in order to help prevent, reduce or delay the need for more specialist interventions.

Youth offending is a key part of this.

Our EWMHS Youth offending practitioners are co-located with the youth offending teams with strong operational links to the locality team.

Referrals are taken from the Youth offending teams for young people who require an emotional well-being or mental health provision.

There is an opportunity to undertake specialist areas of work alongside both youth offending and EWMHS colleagues. An element of the role is to provide consultation, training and support to the youth offending team in relation to young people's emotional well
- being and mental health. The role requires working with hard to reach young people and therefore a flexible and agile working approach is needed. This is an interesting role with opportunities for CPD in this specialist area of work.

Applicants should have aprofessional mental health qualificationand have experience of working with hard to reach young people who have mental health difficulties and their families.

Some experience of the youth justice/criminal justice system would be an advantage as would an ability to work as an independent specialist mental health worker in a multi
- agency team. We are looking for someone familiar with adopting a flexible and creative approach to a challenging client group and who is enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated.
