We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant to manage recruitment of participants into the Spectrum 10K study.Spectrum 10K aims to recruit 10,000 autistic people and, where possible, their relatives, to identify genetic and environmental factors that contribute to autism and the physical and mental health of autistic people.
This study is funded by the Wellcome Trust.
The appointee will be responsible for recruitment of participants and data collection, organise bio-sample collection, and contribute to the production of research reports and publications.
The appointee will work with the Director, Research Associates, and other members of the Autism Research Centre (ARC).
The role entails liaising with teams at the University of Cambridge, led by Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, in collaboration with the Wellcome Sanger Institute and UCLA, along with other stakeholders.
The appointee will also work closely with the research coordinators of this study. The Spectrum 10K team and the ARC oppose eugenics, and views autism as both a difference and a disability.
We do not view autism as a disease, although some associated co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy and gastrointestinal pain are diseases which can cause distress for people who experience them.
Spectrum 10K hopes to better understand autism, including factors that influence both the positive aspects and the challenges of autism.
