Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist/SLT:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration
  • Recent post qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist

Main Duties:


  • To provide a speech and language therapy service to a designated caseload of adults with a learning disability working across
- the community of Scunthorpe and surrounding North Lincolnshire

  • To independently assess, develop and implement specialist programmes of care and treatment for individual patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties
  • To assist in the training of carers and staff in communication techniques and management of swallowing difficulties
  • To plan, provide and evaluate a high quality specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to meet the needs of adults with learning disabilities in Scunthorpe
  • To provide effective line management for speech and language therapy assistants in Scunthorpe Learning Disabilities service
  • To conduct annual Performance and Development Reviews for Speech and Language Therapy Assistants in Scunthorpe Learning Disabilities Service
  • As a Clinical lead within the service, actively contribute to the development of others within multidisciplinary team
  • To assist in the recruitment of new staff and ensure effective induction is provided
  • To function as a Clinical Lead practitioner with adults with learning disabilities who have communication and / or swallowing difficulties
  • In conjunction with Senior Managers, to manage and develop the direction and delivery of speech and language therapy services to the adult learning disability
