Description
24-month contract (starting 1st September 2023)

This 24-month, ESRC/UKRI-funded appointment will involve working with a team of researchers to develop and research a digital innovation accelerator for small and medium-sized accounting and law firms.

The project will be conducted in conjunction with the Hyperscale Group.

The project will provide structured methods and supporting resources to help selected accountancy and law firms accelerate their technology adoption.

In doing this, the project team will learn about how the various forms of support contribute to helping firms, and how the various obstacles can impede progress.

This will include analysis of the role of the context in which adoption is undertaken, and the obstacles presented by rules, regulations, assumptions and patterns of working that result from firms' interactions with other organisations such as professional bodies, regulators, government departments, clients and technology vendors.

The academic disciplines represented in the team of investigators include entrepreneurship, market and innovation studies, operations management and organization studies.

As such, this is not a project about the technical specifics of digital innovation but a project about management of the adoption process in the distinctive context of accounting and law professional service firms.

You will have completed a PhD in a relevant area of business and management (or cognate social science discipline) and have knowledge of academic literature on technology & organisation, work, innovation and/or organisational sociology.

The ability to design qualitative research using primary (interview and focus group) and relevant secondary data is essential.

You will also need to be able and willing to actively participate in the delivery of innovation accelerator events involving representatives of accounting and law firms.

Appointment at Senior Research Associate level will be made if the applicant is able to demonstrate the ability to lead a number of key activities rather than just contribute (further details are provided in the job description and personal specification documents).
