About the role


Our Strategy and Regulation function are now developing our business plan for the RIIO-GD3 period This marks a strategically important time for the gas sector and how we support the move to Net Zero.

Within this, our Regulatory Economics andCost Assessment team has a key role to play. Specifically, to secure an accurate and fair assessment of the cost efficiency of our investment plans; and provide a range of strategic input into the next price control framework (e.g. on outputs, incentives andfinanceability).


The role as a Regulatory Economics Specialist presents an excellent and exciting opportunity to be at the heart of developing Cadent's business plan and price control approach to ensure that we are able to support meeting Net Zero and deliver an affordable,timely and resilient transition for our customers.

You will provide specialist analytical input, central to the development of Cadent's next business plan through:

- driving the development, running and assessment of econometric cost models to assess the efficiency of Cadent's networks;
- undertaking analysis to respond to regulatory determinations made on Cost Assessment; and
- supporting the Head of Regulatory Economics in providing wider economics expertise for other areas of the price control.


In the role you will also interface with a range of other areas within Cadent such as operations and finance and externally with the Regulator, Ofgem, other gas distribution networks and external advisors.

About You

  • Demonstrable drive, initiative and leadership, good interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Able to lead, prioritise and manage multiple work objectives to challenging timescales
  • Have a Degree in economics, econometrics/statistics or numerate discipline
    or experience gained through involvement in regulatory cost assessment processes
  • Strong analytical capability, attention to detail and experience of undertaking data cleaning, processing and analysis, including econometrics/regression analysis (within Excel and codebased tools such as STATA or similar)
  • Knowledge of economic regulatory regimes applied in network industries and regulatory cost assessment processes
  • Collaborative with good interpersonal skills to engage with the wider business and leadership teams
  • Clear verbal, presentational and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable ability to engage and influence with stakeholders/clients
  • Demonstrable ability to pick up new skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrable focus on customers and stakeholders
