Description

About Mafwa Theatre

Mafwa Theatre is a community arts organisation working with artists from refugee, asylum seeker and settled communities in Lincoln Green, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill, Leeds.

We use drama and the arts to create work that celebrates our similarities and differences, brings people together and speaks truth to power.

We use our platform to highlight and enable development opportunities for artists and theatre makers from migrant backgrounds, advocate for migrant rights and celebrate diverse communities.

We run a weekly women's group called Kuluhenna Drama and a community gardening group called Lincoln Greeners. This role will involve directly supporting the Lincoln Greeners.

Lincoln Greeners was started in April 2022 and since its creation, we have transformed a disused and overgrown playground into a thriving community garden in the middle of the Roxby Close estate.

The Lincoln Greeners meet every week during April-September and under the guidance of our Project coordinator and horticulturalist Matilya Njau, learn how to grow food, care for an ornamental garden and have the opportunity to socialise and get outside.
