An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our team in the Frimley Park Eye Treatment Centre.

We support Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) and would hope for the individual to enrol September.

  • To undertake the lead role for the Services
  • To provide Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic/Ophthalmlogy Department.
  • Works as an active member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To contribute to a comprehensive quality Orthoptic assessment service for patients referred to the Orthoptic/Ophthalmology Department.
  • To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, formulation and conduction of
treatment programmes for a full range of Orthoptic patients

  • Liaise with the AHP Consultant regarding the service development and be the link for orthoptists/other colleagues requiring expert advice within this area.
  • To determine the clinical diagnosis, advise the patient and ensure timely intervention of potentially sightthreatening and life changing problems, working closely with the consultant ophthalmologist.
  • Budgetary responsibilities within the Unit for their subspeciality
  • Supervise a Team of Orthoptists, Optometrists and Orthoptic assistants

You will become a valued part of our growing Ophthalmology service, holding your own clinics, and conducting many procedures to support our ever-growing patient group.

We support Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) and would hope for the individual to enrol September next year.


Our philosophy is to provide services for patients where they are most needed, and we actively participate in a variety of research studies for Ophthalmology treatment.

This role will mean working at our satellite clinics on alternative sites and supporting clinics at our new Heatherwood Hospital as well as here at Frimley Eye Treatment Centre, so the ability to travel between sites will be essential.

To oversee a highly specialised extended role for the ophthalmology service taking sole clinical responsibility on a daily basis in the Frimley Health Foundation NHS Trust, at the acute base and various outreach clinics.


To plan, implement and monitor individual and specialised treatment plans/care pathways for patients of all ages, using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.

To be an autonomous practitioner making judgments and decisions on the onward referral and formulation of discharge plans for patients

To discuss complex prognoses with the patient and parent/carers

To be mentor and lead a team of Orthoptists, Orthoptic assistants and optometrists whilst developing extended roles in Medical Retina

To demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical skills in Medical Retina and provide Low Vision Services
