Description

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced registered children's nurse or specialist community public health nurse to be the Trust's Named Professional for Safeguarding Children and Young People.


The post holder will work closely with the Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children and Young People, supporting all activities necessary to ensure that the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities in safeguarding children as defined in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and the Children Act 1989 and the Children Act 2004.


The Named Professional for Safeguarding Children and Young People will lead on the child protection training strategy for the Trust.

Will participate in partnership working, including the Local Safeguarding Children's Boards sub-groups as appropriate and, together with the other Named Professionals for Child Protection, advise police, education, social care, and other agencies on health matters regarding safeguarding children in the hospital and hospital outreach services.


They will ensure safe and robust safeguarding systems and processes are in place across the Trust in relation to safeguarding children and young people and will provide expert advice to the Trust Board in matters relating to Child Protection and Safeguarding Children.

Clinical Role


To be the Named Professional for Safeguarding Children and Young People and work with colleagues within the Trust, in seeing children where there are child protection concerns.

Provide specialist advice and support to children, young people and families where safeguarding concerns have been raised.

Provide all staff groups within the Trust with advice and support regarding safeguarding children issues.

Ensure that Trust documentation considers the assessment, planning and evaluation of child protection care plans.

Participate in RJAH internal child death reviews in cases where there may be safeguarding issues.

Co-ordination and Communication

Develop and maintain strong links with all agencies that care for children within the geographical area.


Work closely with colleagues across the ICS and represent the Trust, actively contributing to the development and implementation within the whole health economy of procedures and policies.

To demonstrate professional leadership and contribute to strategic development of safeguarding / child protection across the Trust.

To provide expert advice to the Chief Nurse & Patient Safety Officer as Executive Director Lead for Safeguarding.


Together with the Trust's legal department, advise and support staff who are required to provide information to the police, solicitors, and court.


To advise staff of the requirements for information sharing when it is of paramount importance to the wellbeing and safety of the child.

Policy and Procedures


In conjunction with other Named and Designated Professionals for Safeguarding Children & Young People and Child Protection, ensure that the Trust has appropriate child protection policies and procedures in line with national guidance and with Local Safeguarding Children's Board (LSCB) guidance.

Take the lead in writing new policies to reflect national policy and practice.


Ensure that procedures are distributed, understood, and implemented by alerting professionals of any changes made in the light of new developments (local and national).

Audit practice to ensure that the Trust is following current child protection procedures.

Training

Take the lead in writing the Trust training policy and needs analysis each year reflecting current training requirements.
