What's the role?


As part of a growing team based in Cardiff, you will provide sustainability consultancy advice to major corporate clients and support SMS's Sustainability Strategy and ESG objectives.


The consultant will understand and support corporate sustainability strategies, carbon foot printing and strategic engagement to contribute to sustainability goals, delivery of relevant certifications such as Fitwel and provide oversight of energy and environmental management.

Stakeholders will need to be guided to appropriate implementation and continual improvement of carbon reduction, climate resilience, management systems (ISO 14001 and 50001), more sustainable travel, waste and recycling programmes, and better management of their supply chains.


This role will report into our Head of Sustainability, working closely with a broad range of stakeholders across SMS to support SMS's Sustainability Strategy and number of key areas within our New Energy Systems team, such as Energy Consultants and Energy & Bureau Services to support clients.

Externally, the consultant will be working directly with major corporate clients leading communications between sustainability and Fitwel stakeholders, and third-party service providers including building service providers.

Within the role there is a requirement for some periodic travel for meetings and audits.


The individual will play a pivotal role in delivering on the strategic plan across selected aspects of sustainability and ESG; engagement, implementation and communicating are key delivery themes.


The salary for this role will be £35,000-45,000, but of course will be dependant on experience.

The working pattern for this role is Monday-Friday, Hybrid Working is offered at SMS plc.

Key Responsibilities:


Internal

  • Support of critical aspects of ESG and Sustainability Strategy, in line with company vision and values.
  • Fulfilling external engagement commitments identified within the ESG strategy such as SMS Reports, voluntary disclosures, rating agency engagement and other company communication channels.
  • ESG and Carbon data collation, calculation, validation, and reporting.
  • Leading on GHG external audits.
Improving and evolving existing ESG data collection, reporting processes and frameworks.


External

  • Deliver consultancy projects to provide clients with sustainability strategies.
  • Engage with a wide range of stakeholders (at all levels of seniority) in client organisations.
  • Identify and assess the significance of environmental aspects and impacts of client operations, products and services.
  • Support organisations' operation of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standard management systems.
  • Manage organisations' participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project, Science Based Targets, andother thirdparty environmental sustainability frameworks.
  • Collation of evidence required by Fitwel, communicating progress, and working with stakeholdersto implement strategies, submit certification documentation.
  • Undertake data analysis to target valuable environmental improvement opportunities.
  • Produce highquality client reports.
  • Any other duties as required.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Degree or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Specialism in environmental sciences desirable.
  • Auditoror other training in energy or environmental management systems desirable.
  • IEMA Practitioner membership desirable.
