Job Purpose:


Under the supervision of the Senior Business & MIS Senior Support Officer, administer and support the schools and central systems in line with the schools SLA, and in response to statutory and non-statutory data requirements.

Assist with internal and external data requests as required.

Duties and Responsibilities - Job Specific1

To assist the Senior Business & MIS Senior Officer in managing the operational delivery of the MIS SLA to Primary schools, satisfying various statutory and non-statutory returns, including the PLASC procedure, according to strict deadlines, assisting in the validation of the returns and responding to queries / feedback.

To be responsible for ensuring the system is kept up to date.

This will involve running reports and queries to validate / check the existing data, and liaising with Schools to ensure that the LEA is informed of all changes to pupil data.

To assist where necessary with data entry and the preparation / distribution of forms.

Liaising with the NAfW, Schools and other Council officers in a patient, helpful and tactful manner.

Working with the various Education Services, central IT and schools, record data on the LEA's systems and assist in work to ensure the quality of the data is maintained.

To produce quality reports, minutes and other supporting documentation as necessary, attending meetings, training and seminars as required, and to respond to internal and external data requests by producing statistical reports utilising a range of software and data sources.

To support the Education Department in the administration of IT procurement, liaising with the central IT Department.

In the absence of the Senior Business & MIS Senior Officer, supervise the seasonal temporary staff, delegating and managing workloads.

Ensure general admin tasks are in order.

Work effectively as part of a team and to undertake and support work designated by the Business, Policy and Performance Manager & Senior Business & MIS Senior Officer, commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.

AF/IE_Supervision & Management_Reporting through the MIS Senior Support Officer to the Business Policy & Performance Manager, the post holder will be responsible short term for seasonal agency staff in day-to-day operational activities.

AFECreativity & InnovationThe post holder will be required to create procedures and guidance for various working practices to manage the schools and LEAs systems, which will ensure the information that is stored is timely, robust, accurate and accessible.

Using a variety of IT systems and data sources, the post holder will also be required to analyse quantitative data, presenting it in a format that is both informative and easily manipulated.

AF/I/TEContacts & RelationshipsUnder a range of MIS issues, the post holder will be required to liaise with officers of the NAfW/WAG, LEA, Schools and other Council Services (in particular the Central IT Service), accompanying the MIS Senior Officer to meetings as required.

The post holder will be expected to:
Take decisions
- regarding the success of the school's system upgrade;
- regarding the most appropriate IT/MIS solution to use in responding to data requests.

Make recommendations (to the MIS Senior Officer in the first instance, and/or the Business Policy & Performance Manager)
- on all MIS issues, impacting on Service users, service provision, the council as a whole, the public and other organisations.

Contribute to decisions
- when attending internal (LEA/IT) working/project groups.
