Description
The Transport Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of a company's transportation activities.This includes planning, coordinating, and monitoring the movement of goods to ensure timely and efficient delivery, while maintaining cost effectiveness and adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
The transport Supervisor will also control the Distribution and Systems Load department, sharing best practices, together to cross-skill and support the whole department for holidays and/or sickness.
In essence, the transport controller is to handle these challenges, a transport controller needs a combination of technical knowledge, soft skills like problem-solving and communication, and often a good understanding of the latest in transportation technology and trends.
General Accountabilities:
Planning:
Develop and implement operational policies, standards, and procedures to ensure organisational efficiency
Driver Management:
Coordinate with drivers on a daily basis, provide them with route details, and ensure they adhere to schedules
Vehicle Maintenance:
Schedule regular vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure that all transportation vehicles are in optimal condition
Resource Allocation:
Ensure that resources (human, technological, and financial) are used efficiently and effectively
Quality Control:
Ensure that products/services meet quality standards set by the organisation
Crisis Management:
Address transportation issues in real-time, including vehicle breakdowns, traffic delays, or any other disruptions
Local Accountabilities:
Cost Management:
Monitor transportation costs, identify areas of improvement, and implement strategies to reduce costs without compromising on service quality
Continuous Improvement:
Keep up with industry best practices and introduce new methods or technologies to improve transportation processes
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure that all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Implement safety protocols and procedures
Route Planning:
Organize and plan the most efficient routes for drivers, ensuring that deliveries are made in a timely manner and resources are utilized effectively
Specific Skills/Experience required for role:
Minimum of 2-3 years experience in transportation or logistics
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Computer literate
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong knowledge of transportation management systems and software
Identifying issues swiftly and finding suitable solutions
Monday to Friday 11:00 - 20:00
