The Role


The School of Dental Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic Learning and Teaching Assistant to join our Professional Services team on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave.

Applications to undertake the role as a secondment opportunity are welcome from Newcastle University employees.

You will provide administrative support across the full student lifecycle to ensure the smooth and effective running of the School's Undergraduate Taught programmes.

You will have good IT organisational and communication skills and work well within a team. You will be keen to provide students and staff with a consistently excellent level of service.

Key Accountabilities

  • To provide administrative support to the learning and teaching function of the School across the full student lifecycle (from registration, through progression to completion)
  • Assist with preparation of assessment materials for academic colleagues, for tracking assessed work out for marking and chasing to ensure it is processed within expected timescales. In addition, transcribing or uploading marks to relevant University systems
  • Act as secretary to designated meetings, in particular, Board of Examiners, including agenda preparation and circulation, minute taking and monitoring progress of actions
  • To support the organisation of practical assessments and assist in setting up examination venues
  • To support the administration of processes relating to adjustments required for students with wellbeing issues or personal extenuation circumstances
  • Responsible for student attendance monitoring, student notifications of absence requests and the processing of Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PEC) forms
  • To provide support for the School's Admissions processes
  • Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required. This includes some flexibility in working hours and may include occasional weekend working (in the region of two Saturdays per year)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Ability to prioritise own work and remain calm under pressure to manage competing deadlines and ensure that all activities are completed on time
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Numeracy skills
  • Good I.T. skills, i.e. good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages
  • Able to work on own initiative and as a member of a team and interact well with staff at all levels
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good organization skills with ability to solve problems
- (Desirable) Working knowledge of relevant systems SAP, NESS, MOFs, Canvas, Inspera, Evasys

Qualifications:


  • Grades A-C in English Language and Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent) or vocational qualifications, plus work experience in a relevant role; or Substantial relevant work experience in a comparable setting
