Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Mon-Fri


Pay Grade:
iFM Grade C £19,917-£21,027


IFM Bolton are pleased to have an excellent opportunity for a Building Assistant to join our Estates team, based at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

As a Building Assistant, you will be a key member of the Minor building works team, reporting to the service Manager and working closely with colleagues within the department and the rest of the hospital.


Job Role:


  • Undertake essential reactive, and emergency repair work, alterations and general maintenance to the building infrastructure using specialist knowledge of minor building works and of other construction trades.
  • Work upon own initiative, with a minimum of supervision on the diagnosis & assessment of available options during the repair of faults in a wide range of engineering & building components and fittings, inclusive of progressing audit inspections & the production of suitable inspection reports.
  • Liaise with the Planning & Scheduling manager and or Estates Officer Joinery / Building regarding building defects, repairs, maintenance, and to request the supply of appropriate materials.
  • Work with the Planning & Scheduling manager and or Estates Officer Joinery / Building in using the 'CAFM' system to receive, update, and close off requests, and update records. Ensuring that a Request is raised to cover all activities undertaken to ensure that the Estates department has full visibility of tradestaff hours, productivity, and activities for trend analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Construct, assemble, erect, and install minor works for the upgrade and alteration, and redecoration of buildings to assist the maintenance and development of services. Ensuring the provision of a safe, secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Progress minor repairs, filling holes & replastering surfaces and structures prior to decorating / painting, brickwork repairs, flagging and road surface finishes post erection.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


  • Evidence of having served a recognised apprenticeship
  • Relevant qualifications in construction, to be inclusive of: City and Guilds Ordinary craft certificate in Painting & Decorating
  • Experience in working within an NHS maintenance, or similar maintenance organisation / company.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of current construction, and 'Health & Safety' legislation

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Minor building works role will be part of a multi-skilledteam within the Estates Department.

The post holder will assist in providing day
- to - day minor building works, and minor new works installations associated with theupkeep and repair of the estate of the Royal Bolton Hospital, and of itsown external and clients premises.


To carry out reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, inspection, minor installation or alteration works upon a wide range of building components, fittings / fixtures, and also carry out new minor works installations as required.
