Our client, a bespoke automation manufacturing company based in Beccles, are looking for an experienced Software Design Engineer to join their busy team on a full time and permanent basis.
The Role
- Proactively collaborate as part of the wider design department to scope befitting technical solutions for projects. This would include hardware specification such as safety devices, communication architectures/protocols etc, where product selection wouldhave direct implications on the software solution.
- Write and test software programs for the defined hardware.
- Author (internal/external) design philosophy documents to support the intended functions of the automated equipment.
- Ensuring all software is written, documented, and controlled in accordance with company procedures and processes.
- Ensure that the solutions determined adhere to all relevant Codes of Practice, Company and Industry Standards.
- Maintain an awareness of existing and emerging technologies to ensure the group remain at the forefront of the industry.
- Develop and maintain code libraries and standardised practices to deliver commonality and reduce commissioning timelines.
- Participate in customer meetings to provide specialised controls input and perspectives.
Requirements:
- Educated to degree or other higher qualification (i.e., HND) in an Electrical/Electronic or Software Engineering discipline.
- Previous experience of working with automated machinery would be an advantage. To include an awareness of safety and other regulatory requirements.
- Programming experience of PLC's/HMIs and/or scriptbased programming.
- In depth knowledge of Motion Control and 6 Axis Robot systems would be an advantage.
- Excellent communicator in both written and verbal form.
- Strong numeracy and IT skills, with good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- Ability to work well under pressure and to prescribed deadlines.
- Excellent critical thinking and problemsolving abilities.
- Team player with great interpersonal skills.
- Selfmotivated with ability to prioritise actions and workload.
- Experience of cost and budget control.
