Islington Additional Needs and Disability Service (IANDS) provides a multi-agency team approach to working with babies, children and young people who present with additional needs and complex disability.


We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist based 4 days per week in the IslingtonSocial Communication Team;a specialist service for children up to 5 years with social communication difficulties/autism providing assessment, diagnosis and intervention for individual children, and a support service to parents/carers of autistic children.


The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary health team based at the Northern Health Centre which consists of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Paediatricians and Therapy Assistants.

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, responsible for organising and managing a defined caseload. The post involves working with children and their families remotely and face to face, in a variety of settings. S/he will need specialist knowledge in the assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of social communication difficulties.


We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join this service, who is able to work sensitively with children and young people and is committed to family centred practice.

The assessment, treatment and management of autism/social communication difficulties in pre-school children, providing appropriate specialist intervention and evaluating outcomes. Working in a multi-disciplinary and sometimes transdisciplinary way to support autistic children and their families.

Islington Additional Needs and Disability Service (IANDS) provides a multi-agency team approach to working with babies, children and young people who present with additional needs and complex disability.

The service may be delivered in clinics, patient's homes, nurseries, special schools or mainstream schools. The service comprises several teams. Multi-disciplinary Team Leads are responsible for the day to day running and management of the teams. Clinical Leads for professional leadership represent specific disciplines and specialisms.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


The post holder will:


  • Work within a multidisciplinary and multiagency environment, including other Allied Health Professionals, psychologists, occupational therapists, therapy assistants and Paediatricians
  • Be responsible for an allocated caseload, providing high quality autism assessments, intervention and effective case management
  • Communicate complex condition related information from assessment to clients, carers, families and members of the multidisciplinary team/other professions, demonstrating empathy and ensuring that effective communication is achieved
  • Plan and deliver effective meaningful interventions, in collaboration with parents/carers and key others
  • Provide support and training to parents/carers and key others
  • Contribute to case conferences and multiagency team meetings, as appropriate
  • Support the supervision of less experienced colleagues, therapy assistants and students, as appropriate
