Team Durham Holiday Camp Dance Instructor


Do you have a dance teaching qualification and experience coaching children? We are looking for a dance instructor to join our team of coaches at Team Durham Holiday Camps to help us deliver a wide range of sports/dance related camps to children aged 5-12 yars of age during the school holidays.


Our camps run throughout the year and all take place at Durham University, The Sports and Wellbeing Park, Stockton road, Durham, DH1 3SE.

Camps will run on the following dates in the coming year:


  • Summer: Monday 22nd July
  • Friday 23rd August 2024 (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays)
  • October half term: Monday 28th October
  • Friday 1st November 2024
Camps will also run in February, April, July, August and October each year thereafter.


The role is both fun and rewarding but can also be quite strenuous; being a coach for the holiday camps will involve coaching or assisting for full days, a minimum of a week and maximum of four weeks during the summer.

You will be supported by a great team of volunteers and will be working with up to 16 children at any given time.

The normal working day will be either the early shift (08:15-16:45) or late shift (09:00-17:30) including a half hour lunch break.

You will be paid on Durham University Casual Rate £12.00 Per Hour plus Holiday pay (12.07%)


Duties include:


  • Planning, preparation and delivery of dance related activity sessions
  • Working as a team to actively supervise children throughout the day including during registration, sign out, lunch and break times
  • Adhering to policies and procedure to ensure children have a fun and safe time
  • Proactively welcoming children and leading activities during registration/sign out
  • Flexibility within working practices, such as working with a range of age groups and abilities
  • Professional attitude to all duties, demonstrating a mature and responsible attitude

Person Specification

Essential:

-
Minimum of having a dance teaching qualification

  • Relevant experience of leading groups of children
  • Adaptable and able to show initiative in dealing with challenging situations
  • Strong communication skills and an enthusiastic approach to the role
  • Good sense of fun and know how to keep young people entertained
  • Enthusiasm and lots of energy
  • Safety conscious and can identify control measures to minimise risk (dynamic and ongoing risk assessments)

Aged over 18 and have a right to work in the UK

Desirable:


  • Previous holiday camp work experience
  • Experience of working with different key stage age groups
  • Ability to work as part of a team and motivate others
  • Level 1 sports coaching qualification

Application process

You must have passed dance related qualifications.

  • Successful applicants will be required to attend a training/induction session before their first day on camps. Training will include safeguarding, behaviour management and planning and running activities.
