This is a service post and falls under the 2002 Hospital Medical and Dental Staff Terms and Conditions with salary on the MN37 pay scale.

It is a Trust role and not a recognised training post.

The post is suited to colleagues looking to consolidate experience in oral & maxillofacial surgery to enhance their confidence as well as those looking to keep their hands in the specialty while undertaking other duties/services elsewhere.


The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service is based in Broomfield Hospital as the hub with spokes at Southend, Basildon and Colchester.

The Department undertakes all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, other than cleft lip and palate surgery and craniofacial surgery.


The duties of the post will include the treatment of all conditions treated in local anaesthetic minor oral surgery clinics and also in theatre as day case general anaesthesia where indicated.

The timetable may include a number of sessions at any spoke hospital. There will be outpatient clinics, minor oral surgery and day case operating at spokes.


Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 15,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.

With Colchester included, this service serves approximately 1.6 million.

The post holder's duties will time-tabled to support all Consultants, to whom the postholder will be responsible.


Supportive training will be available in all aspects of Oral and maxillofacial surgery and oral medicine, and they will be able to attend MDT clinics where feasible with Orthodontics and Head and Neck Specialties.
