York Law School (YLS) wishes to recruit a Research Associate with both quantitative and qualitative skills and research experience to work as part of a cross-institutional team on a new research project entitled _Understanding criminal landlordism in the private rented sector and co-producing solutions._ The post is fixed term for 2 years starting in October 2023.

The postholder will work closely with Professor Caroline Hunter (Co-I) and Dr Julie Rugg (PI, Centre for Housing Policy) on the housing justice stream of work, examining how local authorities decide to take legal action under their housing powers against criminal landlords and how decisions are made by magistrates and the First Tier Property Tribunal in those cases.


Role:


  • To conduct research under the supervision of senior colleagues and to contribute to the production of research
  • To assist in the recruitment of participants for the project and to collect, manage and analyse quantitative and qualitative data sets
  • To undertake appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research project

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:

You will have

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in law or a cognate area (eg sociology, social policy, geography)
  • Knowledge of housing law and/or housing policy to engage in high quality research
  • Knowledge of a range of social science research techniques and methodologies
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
  • Experience of carrying out collaborative research
  • Experience of using a range social science research methods
  • A collaborative ethos
