Role


Reporting to the CTO, the Head of Data will lead and manage data related activities across SmartestEnergy to ensure data is available, of a high quality, relevant, accurate and reliable, and can be leveraged to drive business outcomes.

Working across the business functions the Head of Data will lead the approach to data & analytics requirements, taking responsibility for identifying requirements and approaches and design/implement practical fit for purpose solutions, supporting staff with all data and analytics-based activities.


How will I spend my time in this role?

  • Proactive leadership and accountability for all data and data analytics activity across SEL.
  • Definition, publication and maintenance of a data strategy for SEL.
  • Implement a fit for purpose data governance framework that incorporates a traditional topdown approach as well as a bottomup approach through the use of a data catalogue.
  • Work with stakeholders, business and IT teams to prioritise collected requirements, develop business cases and project implementation plans.
  • Document standards and processes for DataOps, data collection, processing, modelling and analysis, including data flow diagrams and data catalogues.
  • Develop tools and dashboards to track the health and quality of data.
  • Establish and lead a team that executes the data governance framework, builds new data solutions and productionises business developed data solutions, and enabling a selfservice data environment for business colleagues.
  • Troubleshoot data issues, facilitate the issue/root cause determination, develop solution options and work with required teams to implement the fix.
  • Support other key business and IT projects as the data lead.

What skills/experience do I need to be successful?

  • Experience delivering technology and data initiatives at large multibusiness unit organisations.
  • Direct experience developing technology and data strategies and systems design in an energy retail and trading environment acting as the principal business partner for the IT organisation.
  • Defining cloud "Big Data" architectural design blueprints and patterns. Demonstrable experience in building and leading data engineering and data analytics/data science teams.
  • Proven track record in delivering change and managing delivery and technical risk to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Working with external software vendors to successfully deliver projects and support services.
  • Excellent communication skills to work with diverse stakeholders and drive decision making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with other data domain specialist, IT and business area leads.
  • Maturity to participate in multiple complex programs at the same time in an agile environment.
