About the Role


You will be based in the Legal Team, which is committed to supporting the delivery of its core services, in particular Information Governance Services.


The main duties of the post will be to represent the Information Governance Team in the promotion of collaborative working across the Council and the maintenance of customer focus, to achieve the highest quality results in all aspects of the work of the Legal and Governance Services.


You will support the Information Governance Manager and the Council's statutory Data Protection Officer in ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory requirements and contributing to the development and operation of information governance activities including information sharing, risk management and broader governance and partnership issues.


You will take the lead in providing expert advice, assistance and representation to the Council and the wider Legal and Governance Team, promoting data protection and freedom of information compliance and best practice; and maintaining standards and procedures across the organisation.


You will provide motivation and line management to the Information Governance Officers and Information Governance Assistants, ensuring effective performance development and you will support the Principal IG Manager in ensuring the quality of service delivered by the Information Governance team.


You will provide support, assistance and representation to the wider Legal and Governance Team as and when required to do so.

Developing effective communication and collaborative working internally within the Council and with external colleagues and partners.


You will maintain a comprehensive understanding of legislative requirements in relation to Information Governance and ensure changes are implemented across the service.


Ideally, you will come from a public sector background and will have experience of elections and experience within this area of law to take a proactive approach to your role and responsibilities, learning and development.

You will possess a "can do" approach. Well organised and adaptable, you will be innovative, creative and have an aptitude for strategic and critical thinking.

You will be able to communicate and explain complex issues to stakeholders in an easily digestible form and to influence decision making with an ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of management.

With an ability to learn and share learning with others, you may from time to time be asked to take on challenges outside your field of expertise.

You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and be IT literate.

You will also have evidence of research skills, the ability to work to tight deadlines and an aptitude towards advocacy and negotiation.
