We have an opportunity for the right individual to add to our team in supporting the Dispensary Service in delivering safe and efficient care.


The Dispensary is the central hub of the Pharmacy Department and has a high turnover of work from the hospital inpatient wards, hospital clinics, the surrounding Community Hospitals of Herefordshire and St Michaels Hospice.

In this post you will join the Dispensary Team which consists of a mix of ATOs, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, Student Technicians, and Trainee Pharmacists.


Hospital pharmacy is a rapidly growing area with lots of opportunities for growth and development for those looking for it.


The post will include weekend working which is roughly one in every six weekends plus up to two Bank Holiday weekends per year.


The working hours during the week will be between 8:30am and 6pm and the weekend and Bank Holiday hours are 9am to 5pm.


Please note:
The role also includes some heavy lifting and handling. You will need to enrol on a Level 2 Pharmacy Course (unless already obtained).

No previous pharmacy experience is required and our current ATOs come from a diverse background of former careers.

Primarily interpret and dispense inpatient, outpatient and discharge prescriptions in accordance with department procedures. This will include oral cytotoxic prescriptions and Controlled Drugs (CD) prescriptions and requisitions.

Support the Dispensary Service in maintaining and managing its workflow.

Interacting with patients and NHS colleagues to ensure patient safety and satisfaction is maintained.

Supporting the Dispensary Receptionist(s) in answering phones, hatches and dealing with queries.

The work undertaken will be supported by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the guidance of the dispensary management.
