We are seeking to recruit an experienced and dynamic Sports, Fitness and Well-Being Coordinator to join our Therapy Services Department.


You will be responsible for the planning and provision of a varied and innovative sports/physical activity programme for the patient group at Arnold Lodge.

You will be working with a team of three Sports, Fitness and Well-Being instructors and have responsibility for their day to day management.

You require a Sports Science/Sports Coaching related Degree/Diploma or equivalent. You also need a recognised qualification to teach others in the safe use of fitness suite equipment.

Arnold lodge is a medium secure unit which offers an inpatient service across three care pathways - Male Mental Health, Male Personality and a Women's service


Arnold Lodge is accessible by public transport with a regular bus service running to and from the city centre - Arriva Bus 58/58a.


Therapy Services consists of an established and dedicated team of Occupational Therapists, Support Workers, Education Tutors and Sports, Fitness and Well-being staff.

We work together to provide a comprehensive range of interventions to meet the therapeutic needs of the patient group and value diversity within the team.


To plan and deliver a needs led sports, fitness and wellbeing programme for patients using a range of assessments and treatment approaches based on best available evidence.

To make professional judgements regarding sports, fitness and wellbeing interventions required.


To demonstrate the contribution of sports interventions in a patient's recovery through use of relevant outcome measures and monthly statistics.


To be professionally responsible for all aspects of work relating to sports and fitness, ensuring high standards are achieved and maintained.

Adhere to national health and wellbeing strategies for patients in a secure environment e.g. Public Health England, NICE, NHS, National Governing Bodies


To be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Chaplaincy and spiritual care sessions alongside the OT Manager and Senior OTs.

To organise and oversee the hair and beauty service.

To deliver therapeutic physical
- activity based sessions alongside other disciplines as required - e.g. sensory work, strength development, falls management etc

To ensure that all patients receive appropriate inductions for the gym and sports sessions.

To contribute to patient risk assessment and management within the sports department alongside Occupational Therapists.

To make sure all sports equipment is regularly maintained and that all sessions meet health and safety requirements.

Lead on specific developments and initiatives as required.
