York Health Economics Consortium (YHEC) is looking to recruit a Research Consultant to work on a range of evidence synthesis research and consultancy projects within our Review and Evidence Synthesis (RES) programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a research career in a team-based consultancy setting that values academic rigour.


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The primary purpose of the role is to undertake health-focused review and evidence synthesis projects for a wide range of clients


Types of projects include:

  • Systematic reviews of the clinical effectiveness and safety of medicines, devices, digital technologies, and diagnostics
  • Reviews of economic, quality of life, and resource use studies
  • Scoping reviews to inform project or research prioritisation
  • Burden of illness reviews
  • Rapid reviews and best evidence syntheses
  • Landscape and gap analyses
  • Horizon scanning and early evidence generation
  • Reviews to inform network metaanalyses and indirect treatment comparisons

MAIN DUTIES

The main responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Work with and under the supervision of senior staff across a wide variety of review and evidence synthesis projects.

In particular, you will be required to:

  • Develop project protocols
  • Collaborate with Information Specialists to support evidence retrieval
  • Screen search results
  • Conduct data extraction
  • Assess study risk of bias
  • Narratively synthesise data
  • Produce formal reports to stakeholders
  • Prepare progress reports and deliver presentations to clients
  • Produce formal reports to clients and draft manuscripts for submission to journals
  • Prepare data for and liaise with statisticians undertaking network metaanalysis
  • Liaise with health economics staff on model development.
  • Liaise with clients within a project, with the support and guidance of senior colleagues.
  • Attend client meetings and maintain good working relationships with all clients.
  • Assist with the development, organisation and delivery of training events to external clients.
  • Occasionally provide supervision of junior staff working on the project team.
  • Promote YHEC research through academic publications.
  • Develop review and evidence synthesis skills further through professional development activities.

  • Experience of undertaking review and evidence synthesis projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise work depending on client deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm, commitment and ability to produce consistently high quality work within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to engage in continuing professional development and to contribute to peerreviewed journals.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
