Stantonbury School is looking for a Student Support Leader.

Under the direction of the Senior SSL for the Key Stage, the post holder works with students in a nominated year group to promote good attendance, presentation, punctuality and behaviour through work with parents, teachers and outside agencies.

S/he has a key role to play in improving pupil attendance and attitude to learning through regular monitoring of data and home links.

There is a general expectation that the post holder will move through the key stage with the nominated year group, but deployment is reviewed annually or more frequently as required.

This role is 37 hours per week / 39 weeks per year.


Principal Responsibilities

STUDENTS, PARENTS AND FAMILIES

  • Monitor and intervene to ensure high standards of behaviour and good attitudes to learning:
  • Active supervision of students at the start/end of the day, lesson changeover and nominated break and lunch times.
  • Positive feedback on good behaviour to students and tutor groups
  • Give support through targeted intervention for students to set and maintain high expectations of behaviour
  • Meet with parents and school staff as required, prepare and review impact of Pastoral Support Plans for students at risk of disengagement or where attendance/behaviour is a barrier to academic success
  • Liaise with the Progress Centre, Inclusion Centre and/or other agencies to ensure more complex student needs are identified and met
  • Manage, deliver and develop the Restorative Justice approach.
  • Support development and delivery of intensive Behaviour Improvement Programmes, including systematic monitoring of behaviour reports.
  • Investigate and document incidents of poor behaviour in line with policy and, where appropriate, recommend school detention to the Progress Leader or higher level sanctions,
  • Monitor the behaviour of students who are placed in seclusion
  • Make sure a programme of work is provided for excluded students, attend readmission meetings and coordinate action agreed.
  • Monitor and intervene to ensure high levels of attendance
  • Participate in Student Services' late rota, and gate duty as required
  • Weekly check to ensure all absence is followed up by tutors
  • Follow up on late students and sanction as per policy
  • Direct work with students and parents, including home visits, where appropriate.
  • Weekly monitoring and reporting of attendance as part of the School Attendance Team.
  • Refer students/families to the School Attendance Panel, prepare documentation and attend meetings as required
  • Support Wider Development
  • Be adequately informed to work with students on matters related to health, fitness and personal development and welfare e.g. antismoking.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Prepare weekly attendance reports
  • Keep up to date case notes detailing work with students and families
  • Monitor and keep under review pastoral support plans with relevant staff.
  • Support the preparation of alternative referrals.
  • Assist in the preparation of exclusion forms and letters.
  • Assist in the preparation of written internal and external communication and maintain appropriate records.
