THE ROLE:
The Disability Adviser is responsible for the provision of specialist, expert advice, guidance and support to students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD), Global Learning Differences (GLD) and less complex disabilities, some of whom may be vulnerable.
The role is to ensure that the University maintains compliancy with the current legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 to assist academic and professional services staff to develop inclusive practices and reduce the barriers to learning for disabled students and those with additional learning needs.
This will also involve raising awareness of disability and promoting the Social Model of Disability to enhance the student experience and support transition to University.
The postholder is required to develop positive relationships with funding authorities and other external agencies involved in supporting potential and current students.
The role involves working with complicated frameworks, legislation, accurate management of sensitive information, respect for confidentiality and diversity, along with a compassionate but pragmatic approach to support.
