As a Barclays Carbon Accounting Technical Expert, you will support the development and implementation of carbon accounting, voluntary carbon offset analysis and related advice for clients.

The Sustainability & Transition Institute will promote sustainability and facilitate the transition to more sustainable practices for Barclays' clients.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing technical expertise on carbon accounting and VAR methodologies to analyse and track greenhouse gas emissions and carbon offsets
  • Assisting project teams and clients, including guidance on carbon accounting and offset best practices
  • Conducting research to identify market trends, investment opportunities and potential risks related to sustainable finance and Carbon Accounting / VAR
  • Developing reports and presentations, to communicate trends and findings and support the identification of business opportunities and provide sound client advice
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key internal stakeholders and partners such as front office bankers, traders, and functional stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and protocols for carbon accounting and offsetting
  • Partnering with front office teams on the origination and execution of client mandates, building a client advisory strategy and materials to support on this
  • Supporting internal training initiatives with expert content and resources

What we're looking for:


  • Master's degree in environmental science, engineering, economics, or a related field
  • Professional certification in carbon accounting or sustainability
  • Experience in the development and implementation of carbon offset projects, working with carbon registries, auditors, and verifiers
  • Familiarity with carbon markets, trading platforms and carbon pricing mechanisms

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex technical and financial data and develop recommendations based on data-driven insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and complex data to technical / nontechnical audiences
  • Outstanding teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Passion for sustainability and a solid commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and society

In the heart of Canary Wharf, our headquarters at Churchill Place boasts onsite amenities such as; a gym, staff restaurant and deli bar, and is easily accessible by tube and bus links.

With a population of around 5000 staff the atmosphere is second to none with a real buzz being created around the offices within.
