SRG are a strategic recruitment partner to a British multinational company who are looking for a
Chemosensory Technician to join the team in
Southampton.
The role comprises:
- Plan, organise, and conduct Chemosensory analyses, in particular Gas Chromatography coupled to Olfactometry based on Aroma Extract Dilution Analysis (GC-O/AEDA), ensuring that a clear briefing is articulated
- Develop and test new working procedures/methods in line with project requirements, compiling study plans, writing SOPs, and ensuring all documentation is aligned to business practices
- Prepare samples for Chemosensory evaluation including those for the GC-Olfactometry panel
- Collect analytical and sensory data, analysis, and reporting
- Prepare and organise all laboratory tasks in an efficient and orderly way to ensure smooth running within the Chemosensory lab
- Ensure compliance with all relevant SOP's, working practices and requirements
- Be responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating GC-Olfactometry panel sessions
- Provide GC-Olfactometry capabilities and capacities versus the planned schedule
- Ensure execution excellence through panel maintenance (monitoring, retraining, recruitment, motivation, etc.)
- Be responsible for the quality of Chemosensory and analytical results
- Ensure implementation and compliance to Chemosensory best practises ensuring health and safety is adhered at all stages
Requirements:
- BSc or Masters, or with equivalent experience, preferably in food chemistry or life sciences
- Experience of working within a laboratory
- Experience with GC-Olfactometry, GC-MS is essential
- Computer skills including Word, Excel and Outlook calendar management
- Recognised proficiency in laboratory techniques used to extract, separate, and analyse flavour compounds in complex sample matrices
- Hands on experience in modern analytical methodologies
- Basic understanding of Combustible and new categories products and their component parts and understanding of how consumers interact with these products
- Basic understanding of BAT business model
- Ability to motivate and inspire for panel recruitment and longterm motivation
- Ability to manage time and organise tasks within timelines agreed with manager
- Ability to identify and bring to manager's attention issues that arise, need manager's intervention, and propose improvements to ways of working
- Selfstarter, entrepreneurial, dynamic, tenacious, resilient, receptive to change, focused
- Programming skills including RStudio, MATLAB or Python are desired
- Permanent contract/ Competitive salary_
- Location: Southampton_
- Monday to Friday/37,5h per week_
