About the role:


We are looking for a Senior Tutor to join our Centre for International Training and Education (CITE) to take a lead role in the development, delivery and quality enhancement of Year 0 of the Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) and University of Leicester partnership.

You will manage a team of coordinators, tutors and administrative staff to ensure the efficient delivery of the course.

The Centre for International Training and Education (CITE) is part of the University of Leicester's External Relations Division. At present, there are around 35 full-time members of staff) as well as an additional 30 staff on fixed term contracts and a varying number of part-time hourly paid tutors and clerical assistants.

The Centre consists of 4 units:
English Language Teaching (ELTU), Sanctuary Seekers, International Professional Development and Study Abroad.

This post will sit primarily within the English Language Teaching Unit which includes:

- full-time pre-sessional courses ranging from 40 weeks' to 3 weeks' duration
- a range of credit-bearing modules contributing to University of Leicester and partner university degree programmes
- intensive courses in English for general and specific purposes
- summer school programmes
- teaching training courses including CELTA, English for Medium Instruction and English for Academic purposes
- delivery of Year 1 of the Dalian Learning Institute (DLI) partnership
- delivery of Year 0 of the Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) partnership


About you:

We are seeking an experienced tutor who can teach high-quality lessons within a communicative approach.

You should be able to adapt to institutional and student needs and be willing to collaborate with colleagues in the ongoing development of the English language programme.

Additionally, as this is intensive provision and pandemic considerations are still relevant, you should be able to adapt to unpredictable challenges both inside and outside the classroom.


You will hold a recognised TEFL qualification, such as CELTA, and have substantial experience in teaching EFL on both pre-sessional and in-sessional programmes, ideally with Chinese and Arabic speaking learners.

Experience of course design, preferably in EAP, in a university context is highly desirable. This should include experience developing and implementing quality assurances procedures to maintain standards and enhance quality on EFL/EAP programmes.
