Service Care Solutions are looking for a Catering Manager to work within the Lancashire Constabulary on a 3-Month contract.

Job Role/Purpose:


To oversee the planning of seasonal menus, in conjunction with the Catering Services Manager, and overseeing ordering of stock and stock control checks.


  • To oversee the catering function within the specific catering facility.
  • To plan and design seasonal menus, schedule the recipes, including stock ordering from the appointed supplier keeping with the meal allowance budget as agreed, in conjunction with the Catering Services Manager.
  • Liaise with the Catering Services Manager for stock ordering, ensuring it is with the appointed usage as advised.
  • Preparation of the meals daily, batch cooking as appropriate to ensure the food is served fresh and held at appropriate temperatures/times to meet food hygiene regulations and ready for serving at the allocated meal service times.
  • Provide guidance and direction to Food Service Assistants undertaking food preparation, start up and close down duties as required
  • Keep accurate records and accounts of food purchases and sales
  • To ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene within the kitchen are maintained and ensure that the cleaning schedule and daily checks are completed and recorded required.
  • To assist in the cleaning of the kitchen area (floors, cookers, storage facilities) and deep clean as and when required.
  • To ensure the dining area and tables are cleaned during and after the meal service times.
  • Cash handling and recording of cash, ensuring cash is passed to the appointed person for banking or stored securely until banked.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and hygiene and a clean and tidy appearance.
  • To report any accidents/incidents immediately as per the Constabulary Accident procedure and to complete all necessary documents.
  • Take an active role in promoting the catering facility including undertaking promotional events.
  • To attend in house and external training courses as appropriate/required including online training.
  • To be responsible for improving your performance by participating in the Professional Development Review (PDR) process with your manager.
  • To undertake other duties and additional responsibilities which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading as and when required.

Knowledge/Experience:


  • Knowledge and experience of working in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of current food legislation regarding food hygiene and health and safety in the workplace.
  • Experience in designing and preparing food menus to meet quality, nutrition, and cost.
  • Ability to read and understand written instruction, health, and hygiene notices in relation to food preparation, food storage and service delivery.
  • Ability to work maintain and record information clearly and accurately on different media.
  • Experience of communicating across a wide of audience using verbal and written skills.
