The brand-new role of Work-based Tutor for SEND is ideal if you:

  • Want to work closely with employers to support disadvantaged young people in finding rewarding placements
  • Can deliver tailored employability programmes to a wide range of learners depending on their individual needs
  • Passionately believe that every young person, no matter their complex circumstances and barriers to learning, should have the chance to build professional success
  • Can work with young people with learning difficulties & disabilities to help them break down barriers & build confidence

You will be based within a host business, helping coordinate the Supported Internships programme, a structured work-based study programme for young people aged with an Education and Health Care Plan.


The core element of a supported internship study programme is a substantial work placement, and you will be supported by an expert Job Coach.


Day-to-day you will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the job coach and the host business to support the development of the interns and use your knowledge of job matching to seek appropriate employment opportunities
  • Working with a small cohort of young people who are undertaking the Internship programme to support their transition into employment
  • Developing the programme and creating a quality internship that achieves positive outcomes for the amazing young people within it
  • Maintaining accurate records and engaging in regular meetings with the host business, the interns and parents/carers
  • Actively promote and embody the college's FREDIE values of fairness, respect, equality, diversity and engagement

Though ideally, you will:


  • Be able to support the workrelated activity each student is undertaking and deliver a dynamic employability skills curriculum
  • Be able to assess each learner's needs and deliver tailored content
  • Have knowledge of the barriers to employment that young people with SEND face, with the passion and tenacity required to help break them down
  • Have strong knowledge and experience of working with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Be passionate about working closely with learners and unlocking a bright future for disadvantaged young people
