Skills:


  • Experience of initiating, managing and delivering complex projects and programmes at pace, using appropriate project management tools and processes.
  • Plan and ensure service delivery across complex / diverse service areas. Control operational activities within the service area and ensure professional standards are delivered.
  • Advise Directors, Members and others on issues relevant to the service area. Provide professional challenge and advice to colleagues, managers and partner organisations.
  • Manage key relationships with delivery partners /providers /suppliers to commission / manage / evaluate / enhance appropriate service delivery / capacity within area of responsibility.
  • Prepare and present a full range of reports (both standard and nonstandard) covering area of responsibility.
  • Developing a forwardlooking and proactive approach to managing emerging and strategic risks and issues for the project.

The London Borough of Waltham Forest is looking for an experienced Project Manager to help us deliver on our commitments to tackling the Climate Emergency set out in the Council's new Climate Action Plan.


We are the first generation to feel the effects of climate change but the last who can do something about it.

Waltham Forest Council plan to dramatically reduce the carbon emissions in our borough.

This will be a huge challenge, but we have strong politicalsupport - Climate Change is a top Council Priority - and a clear plan of action.

Now we need new team to lead this transformation - this role will be essential to make our ambition a reality.


You will co-ordinate and deliver projects to tackle the causes of climate change (reducing our carbon emissions) and the consequences of climate change (building resilience to deal with a changing climate).

Example projects include a new climate crowdfundingscheme, a zero-interest retrofit loan, increasing car sharing, reducing flood risk and increasing the biodiversity of our open spaces.

The role will require delivering on multiple high priority projects and working with many different teams.

About you


To succeed in this role, you will need to have strong leadership skills, be passionate about delivering projects that support our residents, and be able to work collaboratively across organisational boundaries.


You will have experience of managing projects and programmes, have an understanding of change and enablement initiatives, be able to demonstrate successful implementation, and have in-depth knowledge and experience of all stages of the project and programmelifecycle, especially change and enablement requirements to deliver strategic objectives within projects and programmes.


You will have outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management and influencing skills, with an ability to convey complex information to a diverse range of audiences and deliver difficult messages whist maintaining ownership, governance and buy-in.

You will be a keen problem solver with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

You will be able to operate and thrive in an environment with high levels of ambiguity and possess resilience to bounce back from difficult situations.
