PURPOSE OF THE POST:

To support a service user in their own home to live independently and engage in person-centred and meaningful activities.


To work within Leeds Autism Services, meeting the needs of service users by supporting them in the development of essential skills in order to stimulate confidence, independence and enhance their quality of life.


To ensure the highest standards of support is provided to assist service users in overcoming the disabling effects of autism and other disabilities.


To support service users to experience life opportunities which encompass the above and promote the growth of individuals to their maximum potential.


To work in the manner detailed within the CQC Code of Practice for Social Care Workers and local and National Standards.

with autism are accepted, respected and have their skills and abilities fully recognised.


MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide support to the CEO, Team Managers, Shift Leaders and other members of LAS in maintaining an effective physical, social and emotional environment in line with National Minimum Standards and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Work responsibly with the implementation of identified and agreed service user plans.
  • Ensure the safe administration and storage of medication, in line with LAS policy.
  • Promote sound care planning practices in the service.
  • Participate actively in regular Support and Development (supervision) sessions with designated members of staff.
  • Complete all appropriate recording formats including Health and Safety, service user's records, medication etc.
  • Liaise in a positive professional manner with external agencies.
  • Be proactive in supporting organisational policies/procedures and report any concerns to supervisor/line manager.

SERVICE USERS

  • Plan in conjunction with service users to achieve outcomes agreed in line with their plans.
  • Follow individual service user plans.
  • Contribute to defining and identifying service users' needs in conjunction with CEO, Team Managers and Shift Leaders, and provide input to reviews as required.
  • Ensure the welfare and development of all service users by providing the highest standards of care and ensuring that appropriate attention is paid to their spiritual, physical, cultural, social, educational and recreational needs in accordance with service user plans.
  • Support service users in all areas of personal care, following individual guidelines.
  • Support service users in structured activities in line with service user plans.
  • Recognise changes in service user's physical, social and emotional wellbeing and bring this to the attention of your line manager.

  • Maintain friendly, empathetic, informative but professional relationships with families/friends, advocates and professionals as delegated.

STAFF

  • Act as a motivated staff team member and work enthusiastically towards and supporting the needs of service users.
  • Comply with all LAS policy requirements, including Health and Safety.
  • A willingness to undertake all training required to fulfil the role.
  • Complete a Training and Development Portfolio, and keep it updated.
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

FINANCE

  • Comply with the internal policy on the use of service users' personal finances.
  • Comply with the internal policy on the use of petty cash/allowances.

BUILDINGS

  • Report to the Team Manager, or other designated person, any building repairs and/or maintenance identified as requiring attention.
  • Use all equipment correctly and efficiently, following Health and Safety guidance at all times.
  • Ensure that clean, hygienic environment is maintained by all staff for service users.

  • The nature of the work within LAS entrusts people with confidential information about service users, their families and staff. Any breach of this confidentiality will constitute gross misconduct.

  • Promote a positive image of autism and LAS.
  • Ensure that your conduct within and outside of your working environment does not conflict with the professional expectations of LAS.

TRAVEL

  • Occasional requirement to attend service user centred activities, e.g., their annual holidays, training or other related activities away from the work base.
