The Microbiology Division (MBD) is part Thermo Fisher Scientifics' Specialty Diagnostics group and one of the Company's global divisions.

It is a world leading manufacturer of culture media and other microbiological diagnostic products used in clinical, food and pharmaceutical laboratories.

It has over 2500 employees across the Americas, Europe and Asia, generating approximately $600M revenue.

Primary global Sites are in Basingstoke, UK and Lenexa, Kansas USA with 10 other manufacturing sites across Europe, UK and Asia and multiple distribution centers, all part of a global supply chain that serves customers.


Reporting to the division president and a key member of the division leadership team, you have overall accountability for the global marketing function.

You lead a team of about 50 marketing leaders and professionals to drive Product and Portfolio Lifecycle Management, Regional Marketing, Marketing Operations and Digital Communications and Business Development and Scientific Affairs.

Your position plays a pivotal role in the establishment of successful partnership of Operations, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs and Research and Development and Sales functions in order to assure product planning and availability, market access, effective pricing strategy, long term innovation and excellence in commercial execution, all critical to achieve the Division's financial and growth goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Build an effective global marketing organization. Attract, engage, develop and retain top talent at all levels of the organization. Build a strong team cultivating a customercentric culture that is solutionoriented leading to customer retention and expansion. Inspire, influence, and empower colleagues across the matrix to overachieve objectives.
  • Drive the creation of the Strategic Roadmap (STRAP), which addresses business growth over a fiveyear period and steer the execution of it. Identify and run key shortterm and longterm initiatives to improve business performance and competitive strategic positioning, expanding access to market segments and driving share.
  • Develop, drive and implement strategic marketing planning, product roadmaps and portfolio execution to drive healthy growth.
  • Build market research and intelligence capabilities to drive marketing planning, decision making, and to enable precise understanding of markets, establish customer segmentation, assess competition and to establish clinical and health economic evidence to drive effective gotomarket strategies and tactics. Support the business with timely and accurate information related to the regulatory and market changes that may have an impact on the business.
  • Identify inorganic opportunities such as partnerships, mergers and acquisitions in order to accelerate business growth through new products, geographic expansion and access to new technologies.
  • Set global growth strategies and guide regional marketing efforts to localize strategy for maximum impact. Partner closely with Sales to ensure a tight alignment between marketing and sales strategies, tactics, roles and responsibilities and a clear and effective commercial strategy across key segments.
  • Drive creation, development, refresh and effective utilization of customerfacing marketing and commercial program materials across all relevant channels (e.g. events, collateral and digital). Shape, communicate and enforce brand identity principles and guidelines in conjunction with corporate marketing. Provide programmatic leadership for client meetings and industry events and make continual improvements in the process.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of combined experience in marketing and commercial in the Healthcare industry, preferably in Diagnostics. Microbiology industry experience is a plus.
  • Undergraduate degree in scientific field required; advanced degree preferred. Degree / specialization in Marketing /MBA desirable.
  • Global experience leading and building a successful Marketing function with strategic and operational responsibilities, preferably in a Company with large manufacturing footprint.
  • Experienced in leading change and process improvement on a global basis.
  • Proven leadership ability to influence, develop, and empower employees to achieve objectives with a team approach. Demonstrated success working in a highly matrixed environment and maximising relationships to achieve key results.
  • Proven ability to build senior customer relationships in multiple markets. Experience managing collaborative relationships.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills. Able to sell ideas and concepts to various constituencies, both internal and external to the organization. Strong presentation skills in oneonone executive briefings and in large audience settings.
