    Research Portfolio Managers play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its goals in research and innovation. The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is seeking highly motivated and skilled individuals to join our team as Research Portfolio Managers.

    Job Description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for managing one of EPSRC's portfolios, working closely with researchers, businesses, and government departments to identify and develop new research opportunities. This role will involve:

    • Gathering and integrating information about the research landscape and EPSRC's portfolio
    • Operating peer review and other formal decision-making processes
    • Representing EPSRC in external networks and meetings to build strategic relationships with key stakeholders
    • Working across teams to ensure cross-portfolio understanding and joint initiatives
    • Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on activities and investments

    We are looking for candidates who have a strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. You will also need to have a creative approach to identifying and developing new research opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

    As a Research Portfolio Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

    • Managing one of EPSRC's portfolios, including gathering and integrating information, operating peer review and other formal decision-making processes, and representing EPSRC in external networks and meetings
    • Working closely with researchers, businesses, and government departments to identify and develop new research opportunities
    • Coordinating and operating processes supporting delivery across EPSRC
    • Supporting senior colleagues with project development and implementation plans

    Requirements

    To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

    • A graduate degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as science, engineering, or mathematics
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather and integrate complex information
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on delivering results
    • Experience of working in a research environment, preferably in a policy or management role
