Location:
Basildon/ Hybrid (60%travelling around Essex)


Salary:
£32,000 - £36,000


Working hours:
Monday - Friday

Job Purpose


To support employers with business advice and guidance that will enable them to recruit, engage and sustain in employment adults with learning disabilities and individuals that are neurodiverse.

You will be someone that understands the disability sector either personally or professionally and is passionate about supporting employers to create a positive working environment.

You will promote the offer and to provide general awareness of inclusion.

  • Qualification requirement for the

Disability Employer Specialist:
will have (or be willing to work towards) a Level 3 Supported Employment Practitioner qualification.


Must:

You must have experience working with adults with disabilities or advising employers on how to create more inclusive and disability friendly environments.



Key Responsibilities


Ø Conduct organisational needs assessments and identify the best working practices that create a positive working environment for adults with learning disabilities and individuals that are neurodiverse.


Ø Work alongside our partners, for example Better Health Generation to organise workshops for employers that will help them design support focused integration for employees.

Example of workshop, Mindful Employer.


Ø Deliver workshops for community employers to improve their understanding of hiring and working with Special Needs Adults, for example Access to Work, Reasonable Adjustments, Disability Confident Employer Award.


Ø Maintain effective relationships with the employers by constantly offering them business support and guidance to optimise their internal processes and procedures to support the integration of staff with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals.

Ø Work closely with employers to identify, structure and recommend recruitment and training solutions, to meet the specific needs of customers and employers:

  • Introduce and explore job carving/creation within their organisation to help create job opportunities for people with disabilities and flexible working hours when required.
  • Offer intervention measures such as supporting the employer to make reasonable adjustments and signposting to appropriate support and guidance
  • Explore options to increase skills, confidence, and knowledge to support progression within the workplace.


Ø Improve attitudes towards people with disabilities and their understanding of what it means to employ people with disabilities ensure the employer is making best use of DWP available funding related to employment (e.g., Access to Work).

Ø Champion inclusion, raising the benefits of employing a diverse workforce.

Ø Offer advice and guidance around adhering to relevant legislation.

Ø Raise aspirations for (and of) employees with a disability.


Ø Ensure that employers have a good working knowledge of all the tools and initiatives that can be used to ensure progressive and inclusive employment for a person with a disability.

Ø Promote good practice examples, offering practical advice and coaching employers to meet their individual needs.


Ø Ensure employers are aware of different communication needs; to ensure inclusive and supportive teams where people can ask for support if they need it.


Ø Provide employers with quality constructive feedback that allows them to improve their processes to accommodate adults with learning disabilities and individuals that are neurodiverse.

Ø Deliver a high-quality service in line with Get Set UK's delivery model, values and operational principles.


Key Skills Required


Ø Understand the challenges that employers/ companies might have in hiring and integrating people with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals.

Ø Ability to seek out solutions to problems and critically evaluate them.

Ø Strong time management, planning and organisational skills.

Ø Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Ø Have drive, enthusiasm, energy and a positive approach to their work.

Ø Great coaching and mentoring skills.

Ø Previous experience working in a business advisory role pr,noting inclusion and disability awareness.

Ø Demonstrate collaboration, coaching, mentoring skills and ability to positively interact with people with disabilities.

Ø Strong communication and negotiation skills in building internal and/ or external partnerships.

Ø Demonstrate proactive and innovative approaches in a professional environment that positively impacted the team/ organisation.
